FSC® certification is what?

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certification, is an international certification established in 1993, specifically for forestry and products derived from forests that are managed properly and responsibly according to strict environmental, social and economic standards.

How do the FSC® forests work?

FSC®-certified forests are divided into areas: each year trees are cut into different areas that are not used for the next 30 years. This allows the areas to regenerate naturally. The trees that are planted in these forests are trees that are suitable for the local ecosystem.

The Wood Chain of Custody

In Chain of Custody certification, the accredited certification body assesses the traceability of FSC® wood throughout the different stages of processing and marketing, from the arrival of the logs at the sawmill, to the production of semi-finished products (components for furniture, fixtures, etc.) or even the finished product (doors, furniture, flooring, etc.). The term Chain of Custody is the literal translation of the Anglo-Saxon expression Chain of Custody, which according to the definition given by FSC® identifies the path taken by products from the forest or, in the case of recycled materials, from the moment the material is recovered, to the point where the product is sold with an FSC® declaration and/or is finished and labeled FSC®. CoC includes each stage of sourcing, processing, trading, and distribution, where moving to the next stage in the supply chain involves a change in product ownership
